Getting Started (It’s Untethered)

Many among you might have heard about the process called “Jailbreaking”. It has been around for quite some time and is being used on most of Apple’s iOS devices. Basically, it is the process where one roots the device to give free access to its firmware. This then allows users to apply any modifications or tweaks and to get access to the famous “Cydia” app. Which allows users to download thousands of apps for free.

To get started right away, you’ll firstly need to download the correct tools. Visit: Jailbreak Tools

(These tools will work for all iPhones, Apple TVs, iPods and iPads!)

Before making any connection between computer and handset you should first download the jailbreak tools above.  To make the download faster the file comes in a format that is compressed and therefore not usable until it has been unpacked. It is like going on holiday and wanting to change your outfit without first opening the baggage.

To have the file in a format that is usable you only have to right click the icon on your desktop and choose ‘extract all’. This take up very little time, so you can easily move to the next step which is to click twice on the extracted icon to make it run.

Checking If You Have The Correct Download

If you are using windows XP or 7 be sure to run as an administrator by using the right mouse button and choosing that option instead of having to click twice. You will shortly be asked to connect the handset so that you can continue with the process, you should do as requested. Once you have done so the next step is to put the device into a mode known as DFU. This allows the program access what would have otherwise been ignored or denied.

You will of course be familiar with the power button which you should now press and continue to do so for three seconds, before adding another finger to the button for home.  After 10 seconds you can release the power button only. You can remove pressure altogether from your devices home button once you see that the computer is preparing to open your device.

From the options you are asked to choose from include Cydia as one of the things you wish to be installed at the same time. This is the application that will give you the access you want to further providers of alternative applications.  Once the next button has been pressed the computer will finish up on its own once it has rebooted after around just five minutes.

Once the reboot has taken place the handset is ready to use so all that is left for you to do is browse and choose from all your new options in Cydia.

How To Backup iTunes

Having a duplicate copy of your files is essential as it will ensure that you will have something to use or go to in case you need to restore your files or your music library. In order to make an extra copy of your files in your external hard drive you need to follow the steps below: (This will also work with IOS 5.1)

  1. Plug the external hard drive to your computer and make sure that it has more than enough space to handle or accommodate your entire library.
  2. You may then launch your digital media player once the drive is displayed on your computer screen.
  3. Consolidate all the files in your library and make sure that they are stored in the same folder. His is to ensure that you won’t skip or omit any file in your library. In order to do this in Windows, just go to the Edit option and the Preferences.
  4. Click on the Advanced tab and check on the box that says “Copy files…” and then click on OK to exit.
  5. Using the built-in function you can organize your library by simply going to File, then Library and the Organize Library.
  6. You will see a new window in the screen with two checkboxes, ensure that these boxes are checked and then click on OK. This step will consolidated and organize the files in your library.
  7. Locate your external hard drive in the computer, open the desktop and then go to your iTunes library.
  8. If you are using Windows go to My Documents and then My Music Folder and if it’s a Vista computer just double-click on your hard drive.
  9. Drag the library folder to the external hard drive in order to commence the process of backing up the files. It can take a while if you have a larger library size so you just have to wait until the process is completely done.
  10. Once it is done you may done disconnect your hard drive from your computer. You may then use your hard drive to restore the contents of your library in case you need it.

How To Use Skype

Skype is one of the world’s most popular video call services and it allows millions of people or communicates regardless of where they may be around the globe. If you are interested in knowing how it can be used then you can follow the steps provided below.

  1. Once you have already created an account, you will see six tabs at the top part of the window. If you want to edit your profile or change your picture just click on the first tab , click on profile and then change your profile or edit your profile.
  2. You can set up or manage your visibility by also clicking on the first tab on top part of the window, clicking on the online status option and then selecting in the drop-down list
  3. In managing your privacy, you also need to click on the same tab on top and then click on privacy. A new window will show up displaying several options. If you want to restrict calls that you will receive on your contact list only then you just have to click on the option.  You can also block other people and do a variety of privacy tasks on the window and you just need to ensure that you click on the Save button after making the changes.
  4. In making a call all you need to do is to simply click on the option that says “call phones” and then type the phone number. You can also click on your contact on the list to open its window and then click on video call or call mobile whichever you prefer.
  5. On the second tab at the top you can manage your contacts. By simply clicking on it you can add or import your contacts or create groups. You also just need to click on the Contacts tab to view your contact list or remove an item.
  6. If you want to change your account’s language, the audio and video settings or volume just go to the top of the window, click on the fifth tab called tools and select any option that you like in the drop—down list.
